Kolkata Rape Murder Case: 'Return to work immediately', SC's ultimatum to striking doctors, protesters did not listen
The protest of junior doctors in the Kolkata rape-murder case has not ended yet. Even after the SC order, the doctors have decided to continue their protest.
Protests are continuing across the country against the rape and murder that took place in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Recently, the Supreme Court had directed the protesting junior doctors in West Bengal to return to work by 5 pm on Tuesday. But the junior doctors say that they will not obey the Supreme Court's order and will not return to work despite the Supreme Court's instructions and have also demanded justice.
SC order
The Supreme Court also expressed concern over the 14-hour delay in registering a case by the Kolkata Police in this matter. The court has also ordered that the doctors who are on strike should return to work by Tuesday evening. No action will be taken against doctors who return to work. The court said, 'If you (striking doctors) do not return to work, then no one can be held responsible for the disciplinary action taken against you. Protest cannot be carried out by abandoning duty.'
The protesters did not listen.
The Supreme Court has asked the trainee doctors to stop the protest and return to work immediately. The protesters have told the court that we have not got justice yet, we will not return to work. A protester told PTI, 'Our demands have not been met and the deceased has not got justice. We will continue our movement and will not return to work. We want the Health Secretary and DHE to resign. We will take out a rally to the Health Bhavan tomorrow afternoon.'
