The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to provide the facility of online document updating for Aadhaar to the citizens free of cost. Lakhs of people will benefit from this decision of UIDAI.

Under the promotion of the Digital India campaign, UIDAI has taken this decision. Also appealed to the people that they can avail of the document update facility for free by visiting the MyAadhaar portal. This facility will be available for free only for three months. This facility is available from 15 March 2023 to 14 June 2023. No fee will have to be paid for updating the document on the MyAadhaar portal, but for updating the document by going to the Aadhaar centres, a fee of Rs 50 will have to be paid as has been felt earlier.

For citizens whose Aadhaar was created 10 years ago and has never been updated, UIDAI is asking them to revalidate their Proof of Identity and Proof of Address to update their demographic details. This will speed up the success of authentication, improve ease of living and also improve delivery service.

If anyone wants to make changes in their demographic details like name, date of birth, address and other things, then they can use the regular online update service or can make changes by visiting the nearest Aadhaar centres. Normal charges will apply for this.

Citizens have to log in to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in through their Aadhaar number. An OTP will come on the registered mobile number. Document update has to be clicked and the existing details will be displayed. The Aadhaar holder will have to verify the details. If everything is correct, click on the hyperlink. In the next screen, Proof of Identity and Proof of Address will have to be selected from the dropdown list. And the documents have to be uploaded. Once updated and approved, the Proof of Identity and Proof of Address will be visible on the official website of UIDAI.

According to the Aadhaar Enrollment and Update Regulation 2016, Aadhaar holders can update their Aadhaar once after 10 years by submitting proof of identity and proof of address.
