WhatsApp has become an important part of our lives, and many everyday tasks now seem impossible without it. One thing that is most special about WhatsApp is that its messages come with encryption. The company always claims that the messages, text, photos, and videos being shared on it are all end-to-end encrypted, and no one can snoop or tamper with them. But when many people complain that their WhatsApp has been hacked, how does this happen?

Last week, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule claimed that her phone had been hacked. Sule said that after hacking her WhatsApp account, hackers sent her a message. In this message, Sule was asked to pay $400 (Rs 33,585.94).

Later, in a post on X, Sule urged people to 'never share OTP with anyone or click on unknown links'. She wrote, 'Phone and WhatsApp are working again now.' She also thanked Pune Rural Police and WhatsApp support for their help.

But the question is, if WhatsApp is encrypted, how does this hacking happen? Let us tell you that sometimes hacking can happen due to our small mistakes or negligence.

Two-step verification

As Supriya Sule advised, one should not share OTP with anyone. What happens is that even if you have kept two-factor authentication on WhatsApp, you still need to be a little careful.

Two-factor authentication increases security a lot, for which you have to set a PIN. WhatsApp sometimes asks you to enter this PIN, only after which WhatsApp chat can be accessed. If you share this security PIN with someone unknowingly or if someone comes to know about it, then there is a high chance of your account being hacked.

Do not share the registration code…
When it is on, whenever the phone number is entered for the linked device to log in, a registration code comes on the phone. So if someone deceives you and gets that code from you, then he can get full access to your account and can use it to send messages to anyone.

Click on an unknown link…
The third reason which hacking can happen is that if you get an unknown link through message or email and you click on it even by mistake, then there is a fear of your phone being hacked. If someone gets access to your phone, then he can easily reach WhatsApp.
