If the amount in FASTag falls below the limit set, it will be automatically added to the account under e-mandate. For this, you have to choose the option of auto recharge once.

The central government introduced FASTag in 2017 in view of the crowd at toll plazas and the difficulties in making payments. This gave relief to the people but people are facing difficulties in recharging it again and again. In such a situation, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) found a solution to the balance of FASTag, so that users will not have to recharge again and again.

RBI has included FASTag and National Common Mobility Card (National Common Mobility - NCMC) in the e-mandate framework. Under this, if the amount in FASTag falls below the limit set, the money will be automatically added to the user's account. This means that now there will be no hassle of recharging FASTag again and again. The vehicle will not stop at the toll plaza even if there is not enough balance.

Earlier, when you were crossing the toll plaza and there was less money in the Fastag, you had to pay double the money. The e-mandate framework was created in the year 2019. Its purpose is to protect the interests of the customers by giving information about the money deducted from their account.

According to the current e-mandate framework, it is necessary to send a notification 24 hours before the money is deducted from the customer's account. RBI had announced in June 2024 that the amount of NCMC can be used for auto recharge in Fastag. No time has been fixed for this and this facility will be applicable only under the e-mandate framework.

Auto recharge option will have to be chosen in FASTag

As soon as the FASTag balance falls below the prescribed limit, it will be automatically linked to the account under e-mandate. For this, you have to choose the option of auto recharge once. After this, whenever the balance in your card is low, money will be automatically deducted from your account. For this, you will not get a separate message every time.

This facility will be more beneficial for those people who often travel on the highway and forget to recharge the Fastag before leaving home. Due to recharge, their vehicle will not stop at the toll plaza and neither will they have to pay double the money.
