According to TRAI, with the help of new rules, SIM swaps, cyber fraud, and online fraud can be controlled. According to the new rule of TRAI, if you swim your SIM i.e. get a new SIM from the same number, then it will not be possible to port the number immediately.

Porting can be done only after 7 days of SIM swap. Every day people are being cheated by getting a new SIM issued in someone else's name. SIM-swapping scam has also been rampant in the country but the new rule will help in stopping it. TRAI has also issued the Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations 2024 which contains this rule.

In very simple words, if you have swapped your SIM or have taken a new SIM card, then you will not be able to port it to any other network for seven days. TRAI has issued new guidelines regarding fraud caused by SIM swapping.

Let us tell you that the facility of MNP was given for the first time in 2009. With its help, you can switch to another network without changing your phone number. For this, you have to send a message from the number you want to port. In the message, after writing PORT, you will have to write the mobile number by giving space and send it to 1900.
