Goddess idol brought from Bengal
The artistic marble work in the temple was done by Maharaja Mansingh II in 1906. King Mansingh had brought the idol of Shila Devi from Bengal. The Mughal emperor Akbar appointed him the governor of Bengal. Then he was sent to defeat the then-king Kedar Singh. It is said that after failing to defeat King Kedar, Mansingh sought blessings from that goddess statue for his victory in the war. In return, the goddess demanded to free herself from King Kedar in a dream. According to this condition, Devi helped Mansingh to win the war and Mansingh freed the idol of Devi from King Kedar and installed it in Amer. According to some other people, King Kedar presented this statue to King Mansingh after he was defeated in the war.

It was a practice years ago
There is a famous story behind the face of Shila Mata's statue being somewhat crooked. It is said that many years ago, human sacrifice was given to the goddess in the temple, but once King Mansingh gave animal sacrifice instead of human sacrifice, due to which the mother became angry and she turned her neck away from Mansingh in anger. Since then the neck of the idol is crooked. Animal sacrifices were offered in the temple till 1972, but this too was stopped due to opposition from Jains.
