According to the story, the fast of Rishi Panchami is related to women's menstruation. Women are prohibited from participating in religious activities during menstruation. If a woman participates in any puja etc. during menstruation, she has to face many disadvantages. In such a situation, by fasting on the day of Rishi Panchami, a woman can get rid of all kinds of defects.

Pandit Manoj Upadhyay said that on this day women should clean their houses, take baths etc. and wear clothes. After that, make a square circle with turmeric, kumkum, etc. on a post and establish Saptarishi. After installation, offer Panchamrit and water. After that apply tilak with sandalwood. Along with this, offer flowers and garlands. After this, offer the sacred thread along with the cloth. After this, offer sweets along with pure fruits to Saptarishi. After offering the offering, perform Aarti by lighting incense sticks and lamps. Along with this, read the fast story of Rishi Panchami. In the end, apologize for the mistake and distribute Prasad to everyone. Remain fruitless throughout the day and worship the Saptarishis as per the rituals.
