What are C/FA and W/L boards?
W/L: This abbreviation stands for "whistle/level crossing." It signals the loco pilot to blow the train horn when approaching the level crossing.
C/FA: It means "whistle/gate." It instructs the loco pilot to blow the horn when approaching the gate.
Purpose and Location
These signs are mainly for the attention of the loco pilot, ensuring that they sound the train horn at appropriate places for safety. The boards are placed about 250 to 300 metres before the crossing or gate, giving the loco pilot enough time to react.
Why Yellow?
The boards are painted yellow because the bright colour is very clearly visible from a distance, even in low light.
