The government is trying to create and establish economic empowerment and financial independence among women. There is only one condition to avail the benefit of this scheme, and that is that this loan will be available only to those women who are members of the Self Help Group (SHG). Last year, PM Modi mentioned the Lakhpati Didi scheme from the ramparts of the Red Fort and Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman while presenting the interim budget 2024. Recently once again the Prime Minister mentioned this scheme in his speech.

Last year, the target of the number of women taking benefits under this scheme was kept at 2 crore, but this year in the interim budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to increase this number from 2 crore to 3 crore. Since here an attempt is made to increase the total income of the woman or the family due to the woman to Rs lakh, hence it was named Lakhpati Didi Yojana. What are Self Help Groups - Small groups consisting mainly of women living in rural areas, come together to save money and give loans to each other. Under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, the annual income of Rs 1 lakh is calculated for at least four agricultural seasons or business cycles. And, for those whose average monthly income is more than ten thousand rupees, this calculation has been kept due to the sustainability of the income. This scheme is implemented by the Rural Ministry of the government. Providing business training, delivering goods to the market, and providing necessary skills and training are all possible under this scheme.
