So, how much salt is considered too much? Today we will tell you through this article-
The average adult needs about 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, which is equivalent to about one teaspoon of table salt. However, many people consume more sodium than this recommendation, which can pose a risk to health.
Processed foods such as salty snacks, soups, chutneys, pickles and salad dressings often increase our sodium intake. An increase in sodium consumption coincides with a decrease in potassium intake.
Role of potassium: Potassium is important for balancing sodium levels in the body. Adults should consume about 3,800 mg of potassium daily, which can be easily achieved by consuming 400 grams of vegetables and 100 grams of fruits.
Reducing salt intake:
Avoid processed foods: Packaged items often contain high levels of salt for flavour. Choose natural snacks like fruits, nuts and seeds instead.
Limit pickles and condiments: They can add flavour to dishes, but it is important to consume pickles and salty condiments in moderation, as they can be high in sodium and trans fats.
