Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the proposal to provide medical benefits to retired employees removed from ESI scheme coverage after exceeding the salary limit. Persons who were in employment as insurance beneficiaries for at least five years after April 1, 2012, and retired or voluntarily retired with a salary up to Rs 30,000 per month on or after April 1, 2015, will now be eligible for medical treatment under the new scheme. The Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme provides complete medical care to insured persons and their family members in the form of medical care, treatment, medicines and injections, specialist consultation, and hospitalization.

The ESI scheme is applicable to factories and other establishments such as road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, newspapers, shops, and educational/medical institutions employing 10 or more persons.

The ESIC meeting chaired by Union Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav also decided to enhance medical services and infrastructure in the North-East region and Sikkim to fulfill the vision of the Act East Policy of the government. ESIC relaxed existing norms for setting up dispensaries, and medical infrastructure/regional/sub-regional offices in North Eastern states including Sikkim.

During the meeting, a new policy on AYUSH 2023 was adopted in ESIC institutions to promote the overall well-being of ESI beneficiaries. The policy details the establishment of Panchakarma, Kshar Sutra, and AYUSH units in ESIC hospitals.

The meeting also approved land acquisition for the construction of 100 bedded hospitals each in Udupi, Karnataka, Idukki, and Kerala and the construction of a 150 bedded hospital at Malerkotla in Punjab to strengthen the medical care infrastructure. Approval was given.

Further, it was decided to extend the concessional facilities for non-IP people to avail ESI health care services at zero user charges in ESIC Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Alwar Rajasthan and Bihta Bihar till 31 March 2025. During the meeting, ESIC's Revised Estimates 2023-24, Budget Estimates 2024-25, and Performance Budget 2024-25 were adopted by ESI Corporation.
