The schools which opened on August 31 will now remain closed till September 5. The purpose of this extension is to ensure the safety of students and teachers amid dangerous conditions.

The extension in the closure period has been done due to the rapidly rising water level and strong current of the Ganges, which poses significant risks to the safety and well-being of the school community. The situation has worsened since the initial decision.

The 76 affected schools are spread across several panchayats in the Diara region, including Athmalgola, Barh, Bakhtiyarpur, Danapur, Fatuha, Maner, Mokama and Patna Sadar.

The decision comes after a tragic incident on August 23 when a teacher from Sarathua village in Fatuha, Avinash Kumar, fell off a boat and was swept away by the Ganga while on his way to school. The incident has highlighted the grave risks faced by both teachers and students in flood-affected areas.
