Side effects of not brushing teeth at night

We have grown up hearing since childhood that we should brush our teeth twice a day. Once in the morning and the second time before sleeping at night. But very few people follow this routine. Knowing that this can cause many problems related to teeth and gums. People brush in the morning but at night people often get lazy and skip brushing. But do you know that this negligence can take a toll on your health. Let's know what can happen if you don't brush at night?

These problems may occur:

  • Bad breath: After eating food, millions of bacteria are produced inside the mouth. Due to staying in the mouth, these bacteria destroy the enamel of the teeth, which causes tooth decay, cavities and gum disease. Not only this, due to tooth decay, bad smell starts coming from the mouth. So brush and floss every day before sleeping at night. This helps in removing bacteria and plaque from the teeth, gums and tongue, preventing bad breath.
  • Gum disease and cavities : If you go to bed without brushing your teeth, you may suffer from serious problems like tooth decay and gum disease. In fact, not brushing at night causes plaque to harden in the mouth. Once plaque calcifies, it becomes tartar and cannot be removed with simple brushing. The only way to remove tartar from your teeth is to go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned.
  • Risk of heart disease: Some studies suggest a link between poor oral health, gum disease and heart disease. This is because inflammation, bleeding and weakening of bones around the teeth can cause bacteria to enter the bloodstream through the arteries. This can restrict blood flow to the heart.

Follow these tooth-brushing tips:

  • Brush your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day for best oral health.
  • Use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride improves dental health to a great extent, making teeth stronger.
  • Use the right toothbrush for you. If you have trouble with a manual brush, use an electric brush.
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months. Replace your toothbrush if the bristles become bent.
  • Do not rub the brush too much on the gums. Doing so can damage the enamel and gums.
  • Floss at least once a day. Not doing so will cause a lot of debris to accumulate between your teeth, which can damage your teeth.
  • Rinse with water immediately after eating. This helps in flushing out the acid present in the food.
