Varicella-zoster virus is one of nine herpes viruses that cause chickenpox in children and teens, and shingles in adults. Till now its Clade 1 and Clade 5 variants have been found in India, but Clade 9 has been found for the first time.

Clade 9 is a variant of varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which causes chickenpox. This disease is usually a common childhood disease.
