Chhath Puja 2023 first day: Chhath Mahaparva has started today from Friday, 17th November. The first day of Chhath Puja is Nahay Khay. Those who observe fast, start Chhath Puja with Nahay Khay. On this day, one eats satvik food so that the body and mind become pure. During this fast one has to take great care of cleanliness. Nahay-Khay is done on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, Kharna on Panchami, and Arghya is offered to the setting sun in the evening on Shashthi. Chhath Puja 2023: What happens in Nahay Khay?
On the day of Nahay Khay, the fasting people take a bath and meditate in the morning. On this day, the fasting person should wear clean clothes. Perform daily puja. Then they are given gourd vegetable, gram dal, rock salt, rice, and radish for food. However, in some places, pigeon pea dal is prepared. Today the fasting person has to eat only this. The same food is available for dinner also. On the day of Nahay Khay, before eating food, offerings are made to Lord Ganesha and Sun God. Then he himself eats food. Then it will have to be eaten the next day.
Those who observe fast have to lead a virtuous life from the day of Nahay Khay. They have to maintain distance from tamasic things like paan, tobacco, alcohol, meat, etc. The rules of celibacy have to be strictly followed.
