OpenAI said that the number of users whose data was exposed to someone else is very less. The company has said that the data can only be accessed by ChatGPT Plus users. The company has claimed that due to the bug, some emails went to the wrong people. These emails contained the last four digits, but not the full digits, of another person's credit card number. OpenAI has now assured us that the bug has been fixed.
The company apologized
While apologizing to ChatGPT users regarding the data leak, the company said that at no point in time, the full details of credit card numbers were leaked. "We took ChatGPT offline earlier this week due to a bug in an open-source library that allowed some users to view titles from other active users' chat histories," the company said in a recent statement.

ChatGPT has shared all the information regarding the leaked data in its blog post. According to the company, a user clicked on "My Account" and then "Manage my subscription" in ChatGPT on Monday, March 20 between 1 PM and 10 PM. During this time sensitive information such as his first and last name, email address, payment address, and last four digits of his credit card number and credit card expiry date was leaked.
